This AIR FRYER EGG TOAST will get breakfast on your table in less than 10 minutes! A delicious runny yolk and a slice of toast to soak it up – all cooked at once in the air fryer.

Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day, but honestly, who wants to stand over a stove cooking breakfast when you could be laying in bed for an extra 20 minutes stressing about all of the things you have to get done for the day? 😉

This recipe is the perfect compromise – it’s ready in less than 10 minutes and you don’t have to babysit anything at the stove!

Just crack an egg onto your bread and pop it in the air fryer. Go finish getting dressed or sit and stare at the wall while you mentally prepare yourself for what’s ahead…

We grew up eating egg in a hole and it’s always been a favorite, so having this air fryer version is a dream come true! I love that I can just pop it in and come back to perfectly toasted bread, an egg with a perfectly cooked yolk (we’ll give details in the recipe card for different levels of doneness!), and if you like, you can top it off with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese.

Breakfast is served – especially if you serve it with some of our air fryer bacon or air fryer sausage links.

I mean, we love breakfast – we’ve even made air fryer donuts and air fryer cinnamon rolls!

Ingredient Notes:

Bread – White or wheat toast will work well. We like Dave’s Killer Bread 21 Whole Grains and Seeds, but you do you.

Eggs – You’ll want one large egg per piece of bread.

Cheese – This is completely optional, but we like to sprinkle our egg with a bit of shredded cheddar.

How to Make Egg and Toast in an Air Fryer:

Prepare the toast– Use a glass and press it into the bread to make a round indention in the bread. This will serve as a bowl to hold the egg in the toast. Place the indented bread in your air fryer basket and then crack the egg into the indention.

Cook it – We’re going to air fry our egg and toast for a total of 8 minutes. This will create a gooey yolk and set whites. For a less done yolk, cook for 7 minutes. For a more done yolk, cook for 9 minutes.

Add Cheese – Totally optional, but always delicious! If you’d like to add cheese, open the air fryer during the last 2-3 minutes of cooking and sprinkle cheese over the egg. Continue cooking and the cheese will melt perfectly as the egg finishes cooking.

FAQ:

How long should I cook my egg toast for a runny yolk?

Follow the recipe as directed for eggs with set whites and runny yolks. They cook for 8 minutes total.

I like my egg yolks to be well done. How long should I cook my egg toast?

For a more well done egg, you’ll want to make the indention on the bread a bit larger to allow the egg whites to spread out further and cook more quickly. Follow the recipe but cook eggs for 9 minutes total.

My egg doesn’t seem to cook as well as the ones in your pictures, any advice?

Make the indention in your bread a larger diameter. This will thin out the egg and help it cook more evenly.

Egg and Toast Cooking Times:

Air Fryer Egg Toast | AirFried.com (6)
  • 7 Minutes – Barely set egg whites and a runny yolk
  • 8 Minutes – Set egg whites and a gooey, jammy egg yolk (shown above)
  • 9 Minutes – Set whites and a firm yolk

Keep in mind that all air fryers cook a bit differently and you may have to experiment a bit to find your perfectly cooked egg. Luckily, the process is simple and relatively cheap so experimenting is fun and easy!

Air Fryer Egg and Toast

Created by: Karly Campbell

2 pieces of toast

This 3 ingredient breakfast is a staple around here! Ready in less than 10 minutes and so hearty and filling.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup shredded cheese optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Use the bottom of a glass to make an indention in the slices of bread.

  • Place the bread in the air fryer basket, and carefully crack the egg into the indention you created. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

  • Air fry at 330 degrees for 5 minutes.

  • Sprinkle with cheese if desired and continue cooking for 3 minutes or until eggs are as cooked as you’d like. See notes below for timing.

Notes

All air fryers cook a bit differently. Our Instant Vortex cooked soft eggs with a runny yolk and set whites in 7 minutes at 330 degrees. It took 8 minutes for more medium eggs and 9 minutes for hard. Making a wider indention in the bread to allow the egg to spread out more will help the egg whites cook through in the allotted time.

Love this idea for an easy and delicious breakfast!! I need to work on the cooking times, mine was still very runny after 9 minutes, but once I figure that out, this will be my go-to! I even upped the temp to 340 for the last 4 minutes.

    1st attempt: massive failure 🙁

I could only fit 1 slice of bread in the fryer. Nearly burnt myself trying to get the egg onto the toast.

I like runny eggs but after 7 mins it was still raw. After 10 mins, the toast was a giant, rock-hard crouton, and the egg was still 80% raw. The whole thing fell apart trying to get it out of the fryer. What a mess. 🙁

Ah, shoot, I’m sorry to hear that! It definitely seems like this recipe works better in some air fryers than others.

It was very good and tasty but clean up was not the greatest. I use paper inserts but egg splashed over the top of it onto the inside basket area above the paper insert, into the openings of the basket. Took more time to clean the basket than cooking the egg itself.

Hi Doreen! Sorry you had a mess…we’ve never had that issue as the egg is meant to stay within the bread. It shouldn’t touch the basket at all.

I made this tonight for a light supper. Much healthier than the fried kind. Will definitely be making again – thank you!

Is it possible that the recipes for air fryers mention the cook times and more importantly the setting .. my Gourmia has 16 different ones… So it would be nice to know

Yummy! I just finished my breakfast. This was a guilt free way to enjoy a favorite. I usually use way too much butter on the stove. I preheated to 330 and set for 8 minutes. Checked at 7 minutes which was perfect for me. The toast was golden and crisp but not hard. I did press the indent with my fingers to make sure it was deep enough, and cracked the egg into a measuring cup to make it easier.
